Join the Subcommittee

The MEP is a subcommittee of the RBSC P&C. We have three executive positions: Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. We desperately need three new people to fill the roles as those seats will become vacant on March 15th 2022.

The subcommittee meets twice a term on Zoom, is responsible for fundraising, communications, helping out at concerts, and is a great place to get to know fellow parents as well as the talented educators and musicians who run the program.

Welcome to MEP 2022

The Rose Bay Secondary College Music Ensemble Program will be back to on-site rehearsals from week three which starts Monday February 7th. If you want to join the program this year, please fill out the Expression of Interest form on our website.

All RBSC students are welcome to join the Music Ensemble Program no matter what age or level of skill. To find out more, the MEP information night for new students will be held online on February 7th at 6pm.

9.30-10.00 Get Up and Sing with Cassy Bartolomei

Start the day with a song and feel those endorphins doing their job for the rest of the day. Everyone is welcome to join the singalong.
The sessions are run on Zoom by our resident singing teacher Cassy Bartolomei. The aim is to get us all having a fun uplifting sing to help start our day with a bounce.
No singing experience or ability required just an desire to shake up the week with a fun new activity. Repertoire will be a range of uplifting fun contemporary songs.

Grab buckets, frying pans and chopsticks and get ready to explore rhythms from Afro-Cuban, African and Arabic traditions. Starting with basic patterns and progressing to more challenging ones, we will look at the practical application of the interlocking and communal nature of the rhythms, and have a great time.

11.00-11.30 Guitar Workshop for Beginners with Sean Windsor

Pick up your Guitar and take a break from lockdown with Sean Windsor, Rock Band Director & Guitar Tutor at RBSC.

During this 30 minute Zoom workshop, we’ll learn a few chords that you can use to play 100’s of different songs!  Beginners welcome. No experience necessary. All you need is a guitar.

Everything covered during the workshop will be available to download, so you can keep on playing in your own time, too.

11.45-12.15 Intermediate Guitar Workshop with Sean Windsor

Trivia Night Success

Thank you to all the parents who supported our MEP trivia night on Saturday night especially the incredibly entertaining (and unflappable) host Erica Vorsay, support elves Lara and Robert Goodman, as well as to Andrew Grogan, Garth Nix, Gillian de Jong, The Dinner Ladies, Harris Farm, and Andrew at Chambers Cellars.

We raised over $2000 for our program and we had a lot of fun. So much so that we might even do it again … So if you missed out this time, keep an eye on your emails and the enews for the next one.

Escape the Lockdown Blues

We are hosting a virtual Trivia Night on August 14th at 7.30pm to raise money and spirits.

A limited number of households will be able to attend due to the platform we are using, so keep an eye on your emails and on our Instagram for the link.

There will be prizes and raffle items including a generous gift voucher from those home delivery goddesses, the Dinner Ladies.

Message from Sean Windsor, Rock Band Director

Hope everyone is well and coping with this latest lockdown ok.

Rock Band will be transitioning to our online format for the time being. We will be back to regular rehearsals asap, but in the meantime, we will be using Google Classroom to communicate and Zoom to have a weekly catch-up.

Each band has its own Classroom. You should either still be members of your class from last year, or you should have received an invite if you have changed bands or are new to the program this year. Please check your education emails and make sure you join your class right away. Keep an eye on your Classroom over the coming days, as we will be posting messages for you there. Remember to keep all interactions on Classroom appropriate and in line with the regular code of conduct for RBSC.

Bands will be given music to practice and assignments involving writing original songs and recording etc. Each band will have a short Zoom meeting each week, to check on the progress of these assignments. I will send out one Zoom link, which will be used for all the Zoom meetings. Students will need to join the meeting at their scheduled time (to be worked out via Google Classroom) and will be admitted into the meeting from the waiting room.

Students will need to be logged into Zoom using their education email. No personal accounts can be used and students attempting to join using a personal account will be asked to leave and login again with the correct account.

Please let me know if you have any questions. As I said, we will be posting info on your Classrooms in the coming days, so please make sure you check in there often.

No MEP rehearsals 12th to 16th July

All MEP rehearsals to be postponed next week as we continue to work and learn from home.

Please keep an eye out for more communication as we will be monitoring the situation and Murray will send through another update next week.

Tutors may be able to give instrument tuition remotely, so please contact your child’s tutor to confirm whether or not individual instrument lessons will be held online.
