The MEP’s new choir and vocal ensemble conductor is Edwin Carter, who is also a teacher at RBSC and last year was musical director of the college production of the Wedding Singer. Edwin is an experienced vocalist, choral conductor and chorister who has conducted choirs at several schools around Sydney, and established choral programs where extra-curricular music was not present. He studied a combined Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Education degree at the UNSW, where he focussed on the development of singing and piano skills. Having been trained in singing both as a soloist and chorister since the age of 7, he has extensive knowledge of both singing and choral techniques and is also a proficient pianist. He has been an active member of Sydney’s choral community since 2007, regularly performing as a chorister for the SSO and as a member of the Sydney Phiharmonia Chamber Singers.
Edwin has big plans for the choir and vocal ensemble. Rehearsals will focus on perfecting performance repertoire whilst also developing the skills necessary for accurate pitch, breathing support, diction, dynamic development and tone. Edwin also will be working to expand performance opportunities for choral singing throughout the school and community, with the aim of participating in choral Eisteddfods in the near future.
